The Maple Syrup Cookbook
Published in Paperback by Storey Books (March, 1989)
Average review score:

surprisingly tastyI bought this book as a 'gag gift' for my wife, a New England native who LOVES maple syrup. Turns out it is a really wonderful cookbook about "cooking" with maple syrup (anybody can pour it on stuff). If you use grade B maple syrup (much darker, with a very strong maple flavor) you don't even need to use much. This book made a maple syrup lover out of me!

Marion's Angels
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (November, 1979)
Average review score:

God moves in mysterious waysMarion's Angels was first published as "falling angels" - a much better title as it suggests both the literal carved angels of the medieval church which the child protagonist wishes to save and also the adults whom she loves but whose lives she affects in unexpected ways. This book is deceptively brief and very tightly written, full of allusive dialogue. Music, love, death, God and growing up. God may give us what we need, not what we think we want. The ending is beautifully paced. Not just for teenagers, this one.

Mark Twain: Young Writer
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Good book about Mark TwainThis book was exhilarating, however, it wasn't really a cliff-hanger. It captured my interest in Samuel Clemens--Mark Twain. I had no clue that there was a town called Florida, Missouri (I'm from the state of Florida).
This is a good book for a book report for school (5th grade).

Harriet and Lord Charles join forces for this quest but while doing so they find that the Tribble sisters arn't the only ones who want to be loved.

The Monarchs Are Flying: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Firebrand Books (December, 1987)
Average review score:

Lesbian, Wife Abuse, and a Small TownOne of the things I often dislike about murder mysteries is that they involve characters that I can't relate to (i.e. too NYPD Blue or even worse L.A. Law). This is a compelling story of a lesbian living in a small town who is falsely accused of murdering a former girlfriend who has since married a violent wife abuser. Did I mention it takes place in a small town (the people in it are small and narrow-minded) where being a lesbian in their eyes makes her guilty. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider and was made to feel like one.

Mrs. Budley Falls from Grace (Poor Relation, Vol 3)
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (August, 1993)
Average review score:

Wonderfully daring, romantic, and exciting. It is the story of the lamb being thrown into the lion's den all over again. Except this time there is a chance of love, a hint of passion. I absolutely loved this book. This was the first romance I had ever read and that was five years ago. Now I can read it over and over again and still love it. Mrs. Budley is a wonderful character and as she falls from grace, she falls with a loud thud. I can honestly recommend this for anyone: beginner, a romance-aholic, or anything in between. It is, in short, a wonderful romance.

Noble Beginnings
Published in Audio Cassette by Chivers Press Ltd ()
Average review score:

good but a bit on the darker sideThis is the first of another series by Fraser and while it has the same interest level of the Rhenna series, it is darker than the others. When I finished reading it, I wanted to read the others, if not for the story, to know that there is hope for the characters.

O'Keeffe and Texas
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (September, 1998)
Average review score:

Well reserched imformation about O'keeffe's Texas years. What can I say. As a fan of Georgia O'keeffe's artwork, I must say that Ms. Udall's way of writing is quite concise. She does a wonderful job of breaking down her book into sections: Solids and voids, Light, and Line as a formal element. I thought Ms. Udall's book does a great job deatailing the finer points of O'keeffe's Texas years (1912-1918).

Paper Making: How to Create Original Effects With Paper, Including Watermarked, Embossed and Marbled Papers-13 Projects (Contemporary Crafts Series)
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (August, 1995)
Average review score:

Easy first steps ...Elliot has presented here, in this well pictured book, the basics for learning - or maybe even more, 'building the desire for' - making paper. A great precursor to learning more and developing the craft of paper making.
It's not the most in-depth piece .. but it does what I believe it was intended to do: Inspire and Promote. These it does well.
Enjoy.

Parents and Adolescents Living Together, Part 1: The Basics
Published in Paperback by Castalia Pub Co (August, 1987)
Average review score:

Improve your parenting skills; Improve your child's behaviorGerald Paterson and Marion Forgatch provide practical, useful and effective suggestions on how to improve your parenting skills and thereby improve the behavior of your children. Replace negative, coercive parent/child interactions with more positive, reciprocal interactions. Volume I covers basic family managment skills: how to give effecitve instructions, how to set up household rules, how to design and implement a basic point system and so on. Part 1 teaches parents how to respond to specific adolescent behaviors and establish consequences that result in changes in their child's behavior. The principles in this book work well with kids aged 8 through 16. Some suggestions may not be as helpful for older teens, 17-18 years old. It's better if you read the book now, when your child is 8,9, or 10 than wait until your child is 17. Buy both volumes 1 and 2. Volume 2 covers Communication Skills, Problem Solving, Sex, Drugs, and Alcohol, School Problems and more. The two books are an excellent resource for child counselors and family therapists.
